Volunteer Calgary

Criteria

This program actively recruits from the diversity of people and viewpoints that make up Calgary. We welcome applications from people who have explored the program and feel it is a good fit for their development!

We are looking for people who:

  • are committed to a transformational, intensive 9 month program
  • are reflective and self aware
  • want to develop leadership capacity to see and meet complex, systemic challenges – in themselves and in others
  • understand the need for a disciplined, critical thought process
  • care deeply about community, humanity, and the planet

In our attempt to include diversity of people and viewpoints, some well-qualified applicants may not be selected. We urge those applicants to reapply in the following year with the understanding that each year's applicant pool is independently considered.

Please be aware that full attendance of the entire program is essential. It is vital that you, your employer and your family understand and honor these commitments. It is anticipated that at least 15 days of your time will be required to complete the Leadership Calgary program. Even if your employer is not financially sponsoring your involvement, it is important that you secure this time commitment to ensure that this course is a priority for your attention.

You are required to attend 2 Learning Days per month, scheduled from 1 pm to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, and 9 am – 4 pm on Saturday from October through April as well as the three-day Opening Retreat in September and the two-day Closing Retreat in May. You are also required to participate in a group to plan a Learning Day with others in the Leadership Calgary program.

You can expect your Leadership Calgary journey to require, on average two to three hours a week outside Learning Days to adequately grasp the course curriculum and keep pace with reading requirements (3-5 books for the course) and content review. Your individual Learning Day will require approximately 40 to 50 hours of additional time to be scheduled at the discretion of your team. There may be some additional preparation for each Learning Day such as a request to read articles or view movies in preparation.

Tuition

Leadership Calgary provides a highly recognized nine-month community leadership program, valued at approximately $10,000, for a fee of only $3,000 (plus GST) per individual. This is possible due to the support of our sponsors who strongly believe in and support community leadership development in the Calgary area.
